Lanwades Hall Wedding, Newmarket - Charlotte & Martin

A summer time Cambridgeshire wedding at the beautiful Lanwades Hall in Newmarket. This wonderful wedding had a number of special elements to it, including Danish wedding traditions and an outdoor first dance in front of a live band playing on the terrace. Just simply fantastic.

After getting to know Charlotte and Martin well, I cannot think of two people more suited to each other. They are just the perfect couple.

The day started at Lanwades Hall with both the bride and groom getting themselves ready for their big day. Charlotte is a very talented tutor at The Cambridge School of Beauty Therapy so needed no assistance with making herself look as stunning as she did. The dress Charlotte chose was a Sottero & Midgley and clearly Art Deco inspired with such an intricate pattern.

The wedding guests were met with smooth saxophone sounds from Glen Johnson as they arrived ready for a day of sunshine, happiness, love and some hard partying. The ceremony was held outside in the sunken garden to the rear of the hall. The weather was very kind and the sun was out to play all day.

Being part Danish, Martin had many family members travelling in from Denmark and along with them they brought some Danish wedding traditions which made for a very energetic experience. There were triggers to make Charlotte and Martin stand on their chairs during the wedding breakfast and kiss or to get under the table to kiss. If the bride left the room to the bathroom, all the female guests lined up to kiss the groom and vice versa.

The first dance was played by the superb Swagger to an outdoor dance floor. Following the first dance ensued the final of the Danish wedding traditions, the cutting of the groom's sock. The male guests will take off the groom's shoes and the best man then cuts the tips of his socks. It is said that when the groom approached the bride's father to ask for his daughters hand in marriage he would put on his best socks. The tradition of cutting them ensures he no longer has his best socks so cannot ask for another's hand in marriage.

Thank you to Charlotte and Martin for choosing me to capture one of the most important days of your lives. It was such an interesting and fun day to be a part of. Here is a few of the highlights.
